PEOPLE: Architect, ALSC Architects Inc., Spokane, Wash.; general contractor, Bodell Construction Co., Salt Lake City; developer, Army & Air Force Exchange Service, Dallas; decking panel installer, Sure Steel Inc., Sandy, Utah; roof panel installer, Standard Sheetmetal, Honolulu; structural engineer, Coffman Engineers, Spokane; and supplier, Curveline Inc., Ontario, Calif.

PRODUCTS: Sacramento, Calif.-based ASC Steel Deck manufactured the 20-gauge “B” deck in galvanized steel. The 24-gauge, MAC 150 Galvalume standing-seam panel metal roofing was manufactured and curved on-site. The roofing features a jade Kynar 500 finish.

FINE POINTS: The buildings at Schofield Barracks, which date back to World War II, feature gracefully arched windows and entrances. The new design aimed to capture the historic quality and regional character. The curved- canopy walkway structure is designed to move people from remote parking areas to the three main entryways. Structural characteristics of the metal panels resulted in a clean design; a single span of curved panels could be attached directly to primary framing with no need for a substrate. Standing- seam panels were applied over the curved deck to provide a color accent.
