People: Architects, Hollis+Miller Architects, Lee’s Summit, Mo., and ComArts, Boulder, Colo.; installer, Seaman and Schuske Metal Works, St. Joseph, Mo.; general contractor, Walton Construction, Kansas City, Mo.
Products: Approximately 14,000 square feet of Envelope 2000 metal composite material (MCM) panels from Citadel Architectural Products in Indianapolis were utilized to create appeal and highlight strategic entrances to the mall. The panels are finished in regal red and blue, and were installed using the Reveal system, a field-assembled attachment method utilizing perimeter moldings.
Fine points: East Hills Mall originally was built in 1964 and has been a strong economic catalyst for the town of St. Joseph, located just north of Kansas City. The mall has drawn customers from a multistate region, but had become dated. A major renovation was deemed critical for future success.
