People: Architect, KKG Studios, Covington, Ky.; general contractor, Marrilla, Lexington; structural steel fabricator, Harry Gordon Steel, Lexington
Products: This project used 99,000 pounds of hot-dipped galvanized steel from three sources: Hanna Steel Tube in Fairfield, Ala., Independence Steel Tube in Chicago, and Leavitt Tube, also in Chicago. The steel construction consists of square and rectangular tubes. The columns are supported by tube trusses, and tube purlins are used to support the roof.
Fine Points: Form and function come together with the installation of the five commercial-grade, large-diameter, low-speed ceiling fans from Big Ass Fans in Lexington. The breeze created by the silent-operating fans provides comfort to the site, particularly during hot summers when art festivals and concerts frequently take place in the space.
