People: Architect, Clark Design Group, Seattle; installer, Kenco Construction, Seattle; general contractor, Ledcor Construction, Henderson, Nev.

Products: The mixed-use project utilizes approximately 51,000 square feet of 2-inch CFA-30 insulated wall panels from Metl-Span, Lewisville, Texas. The panels were finished in a custom color called Zactique II and were installed horizontally. A multipurpose solution, the panels provide the building’s metal skin, insulation, and vapor barrier in one component.

Fine points: The new Ballard Blocks development in the Ballard area of Seattle offers 366,000 square feet of commercial and retail space in two buildings that are connected by a pedestrian promenade and a below-grade parking level. The project is registered as LEED Silver with the Washington, D.C.–based U.S. Green Building Council and is in the process of being certified. Sustainable design elements include a high-efficiency HVAC system, low-VOC construction products, and preferred parking for fuel-efficient vehicles, as well as brownfield site remediation. The contractors diverted more than 93 percent of the project’s demolition and construction waste from landfills.
