Chatham House

CHATHAM, N.J.

Nestled on 2 acres (0.81 hectares) in a small residential community surrounded by horse farms, a national park and two university campuses, the Chatham House features a dove-gray 5,000-square-foot (465-m2) standing-seam metal roof from Perth Amboy, N.J.-based Englert Inc. Because of the 12:12 (45-degree) slope of the roofs, complex scaffolding was used to install the Englert Series 1000 panels without damaging them.

The 16-inch (406-mm) panels are made from 24-gauge steel. Ench Roofing, West Orange, N.J., recommended lead-coated copper instead of the original specification for EPDM for the home’s built-in gutters to make them maintenance-free. Architect Hugh Newell Jacobsen, Washington, D.C., designed the home.
