Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries’ coil and extrusion factory-applied spray coatings purchased through PPG CAP Certified Applicator Program members now have a seacoast-corrosion warranty. The warranty, which is available exclusively through PPG CAP program members, covers Duranar, Duranar Sunstorm, Duranar XL and Duranar XLBC coatings applied in normal and industrial environments. When applied by PPG CAP program members, the coatings will be covered under the warranty for five years longer than those applied by nonmembers.
The aluminum substrates to which the coatings are applied must be properly cleaned and primed and employ PPG Industries’ flash-primer technology along with specific pre-treatment. If these conditions are met, the warranty asserts that Duranar coatings will not peel, check or crack; chalk in excess of numerical rating 8 as measured by ASTM D4214 procedures (Method D6569), “Standard Test Methods for Evaluating the Degree of Chalking of Exterior Paint Films;” fade or change color in excess of five Delta E units as measured by ASTM D2244, “Standard Test Method for the Calculation of Color Tolerances and Color Differences from Instrumentally Measured Color Coordinates;” or corrode in excess of numerical rating 6 on cut edges and numerical rating 7 on field surfaces as measured using ASTM D1654, “Standard Test Method for Evaluation of Painted or Coated Specimens Subjected to Corrosive Environments.” For more information, visit www.ppgideascapes.com.
