The American Institute of Steel Construction, Chicago, announced the recipients of its annual IDEAS2 awards in May during its 2010 Steel Conference in Orlando, Fla. The awards recognize outstanding achievement in architecture and engineering on structural steel projects across the country. The 12 winners were chosen from nearly 100 submissions from architecture and engineering firms within the U.S. Each submission was judged based on its use of structural steel, with an emphasis on creative solutions to project requirements, design innovation, aesthetic impact, innovative use of architecturally exposed structural steel, technical or architectural advances in the use of the steel, the use of innovative design and construction methods, and sustainable design and construction. A panel of design and construction industry professionals identified National and Merit winners in three categories, based on construction value: Projects Less than $15 million; Projects $15 million to $75 million; and Projects Greater than $75 million. The panel also awarded a President’s Award of Excellence to Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, and L.A. Live in Los Angeles, for structural engineering accomplishment.
